Accessing your data

Why you don’t NEED a web based solution

CharityMaster allows multiple users to simultaneously access your database over a Local Area Network (LAN) in your office.

What about over the internet? Even though CharityMaster is a Windows desktop application, there are a number of ways to allow your staff, volunteers and bookkeepers to access your data over the internet.

  • If your database is stored on a server, you can connect a computer running CharityMaster to your database over the internet using a Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • You can use the free Windows Remote Desktop Services software to connect a Windows or Mac computer to a workstation in your office that is running CharityMaster. Complete instructions on setting up and using Windows Remote Desktop are HERE.
  • If you already have a Windows Server, you can buy Remote Desktop Services client access licenses for your Windows Server that will allow multiple users to access CharityMaster at one time.
  • You can use a commercial peer-to-peer remote desktop solution such as GoToMyPC or LogMeIn.
  • For the maximum in flexibility, you can access a hosted version of CharityMaster (and QuickBooks). Click HERE for details.

Thinking of a web based system?

Consider the following:

  • Who controls your data? If you decide not to renew your contract, can you get your data back and will it be in a form that you can import into another vendor’s software?
  • What safeguards you from significant price increases? When you buy a permanent license for CharityMaster, you pay just once and so there is no such thing as a price increase.
  • And what about customization? Since their software is the same for everyone, the vendor can’t make it look different just for you. And remember, if CharityMaster doesn’t quite work the way you want it to, we may customize it for you at no charge!
  • Consider the per user costs and the charges for all the add-ons you need. We don’t charge extra for users and even if you buy all our optional modules, our price is still lower.

Some of the major software suppliers to the non-profit sector charge $1,500 per year and more for a database that is between 1,000 and 5,000 names. Compare that to CharityMaster’s low prices.
